It’s all in your perspective…

Tamra Larter allowed the birth of her second child to be filmed as part of a documentary titled "Orgasmic Birth." (Tamra Larter from ABCNews.com)

I admit, when my husband sent the link to this 20/20 segment as a possible blog topic, it was difficult for me to watch the video, let alone consider writing about it. But by the end of it, I realized the women were simply asking each of us to re-think our perspective on childbirth. I’m all about that. And, I’m living proof that when you minimize fear, you minimize pain. Watch for yourself and let me know what you think. Were you lucky enough to have such an exhilarating childbirth experience?

Kudos to M.I.A at the Grammy’s last night! She performed on her due date - Feb 8, with T.I., Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, and Kanye West. She gets my vote for Best Dressed Belly!

Octuplets mom obsessed?

Posted by: Michelle
in Birth, Pregnancy, newborn

Well, it appears that the mother of the brand new 8 babies is a SINGLE mom who lives with her mother, and she already has 6 other kids at home. Now totaling 14 babies - we can skip Jon & Kate Plus 8 - she is making her way towards competing with The Duggar Family!

According to an article (see link below to read the full story), the grandmother is claiming that her daughter is obsessed with having babies. At 33-years-old, she has a Bachelor’s degree and is currently working on a Master’s degree. She also doesn’t appear to be receiving any public assistance. So, how does she do it? Also, it seems as if she was paid for the fertility treatment…I am intrigued by this situation. Ethical questions are also being tossed around with her situation. How in-depth should the screening process be for the use of fertility treatment? What are your thoughts?

Surprise - Octuplets!

Posted by: Michelle
in Birth, Food, Pregnancy, newborn, shopping

A Californian couple yesterday gave birth to eight babies!  WOW!  Our hats off to them! It took 46 doctors, nurses and assistants to deliver all eight babies in 5 minutes! They are the second live octuplets born in U.S history.

Watch out Jon & Kate Plus Eight - there’s another family on the rise!

“The mother, who was not identified, gave birth Monday to the six boys and two girls weighing between 1 pound, 8 ounces, and 3 pounds, 4 ounces. The eighth baby was a surprise to the parents and doctors who had been expecting only seven children.” (USA TODAY) read more

On WHAS-11 at Noon

Watch Jackie & Michelle on WHAS11 at Noon

Last Friday, Michelle and I had the great opportunity to be on the WHAS-11 noon news with Renée Murphy. We almost missed it due to a crazy traffic issue on I-64, but wound up getting there just in time. Everybody was so friendly, and we were excited to have a moment to promote our book. Unfortunately, you can’t say all that you want to say in a minute or two and some of the key points we missed are below:

  • Get the books for free at your OB/GYN or midwife’s office, as well as some of our sponsors. If they don’t carry it now, be sure to request it from them, and let us know so we can follow up with them.
  • You can subscribe to our e-newsletter on our website. We give away prizes and keep you informed.
  • We’ll mail you a copy of the book for $10, $5 each additional copy. Email your request and we’ll arrange payment via Paypal.
  • If you offer a service, class, meeting, etc., please share meeting times with us so we can add them to our calendar.
  • Lastly, mention that you saw us on WHAS-11, and Dede Holman Photography will give you $25 off a sitting fee.

Amazing Births

Posted by: Michelle
in Pregnancy, newborn

I found this pretty interesting! Here’s a link to some amazing births. From the 70-year old woman in India who gave birth last month to a baby girl to other moms out in the world who have done some amazing things. Examples - One mom is the surrogate of triplets for her daughter (kinda like Phoebe from Friends) while another mom gives birth to a baby on 8-8-08, at 8:08a and weighed (guess what) - 8lbs, 8oz! Go figure. For more amazing births - click here.

No Cookie Dough? You gotta be kidding!

Posted by: Michelle
in Food, Pregnancy, Uncategorized, newborn

“Raw Eggs could contain salmonella bacteria and should not be eaten by pregnant women. Recipes that contain raw eggs, such as Caesar salad dressing, eggnog, and uncooked cake batter or cookie dough should be avoided.” Parent.com

UUGG! What’s a girl to do? I guess the only solution here is to wait 12-14 minutes while they bake!

“My babies kept me going”

Posted by: Michelle
in Pregnancy, newborn

Here is a story about a mom who had a skydiving accident while pregnant 3 years ago - although she didn’t know she was pregnant at the time.

“It was only when West was rushed to a hospital emergency room that a blood test revealed that she was two weeks pregnant. Naturally, West was shocked; she said she never would have jumped if she’d known she was pregnant.” msnbc.com
